Day 1: Marrakech – Imi Oughlad – Tizi n’Tachte – Tiziane
Begin your 8 days Morocco mountain trek and Sahara Desert tour with a scenic transfer from Marrakech to Imi Oughlad (1,450m), where your adventure with Trekking Atlas Mountains begins. Meet your friendly Berber muleteers and start your trek through forests of pine and juniper, crossing the beautiful Tizi n’Tachte Pass (2,000m). Take in panoramic views before descending to the traditional Berber village of Tiziane (1,750m) for dinner and an overnight stay in a guesthouse.
Day 2: Tiziane – Tizi n’Taghrhourte – D’knt
Today, trek through lush walnut groves and quiet Berber hamlets. Ascend to the Tizi n’Taghrhourte pass (1,995m) and enjoy a peaceful picnic surrounded by mountain serenity. Your journey with Trekking Atlas Mountains continues as you follow forest trails to the remote village of D’knt (1,870m) for a night in a traditional guesthouse.
Day 3: D’knt – Tizi n’Tagdalte – Tizi Oussem
The third day of your 8 days Morocco mountain trek and Sahara Desert tour takes you through cornfields and barley terraces, where you’ll see local shepherds at work. Cross the scenic Tizi n’Tagdalte and descend through aromatic juniper forests to reach the village of Tizi Oussem (1,850m). Overnight in a local guesthouse or at Azib Tamsoult.
Day 4: Tizi Oussem – Tizi n’Mzik – Imlil
Visit the beautiful Azib Tamsoult waterfalls before a rewarding ascent of Tizi n’Mzik (2,500m). Descend into the picturesque village of Imlil (1,900m), nestled in the heart of the High Atlas. Spend the night in Armed Village, enjoying warm Berber hospitality.
Day 5: Imlil – Tizi Tidli – Tizi n’Tamatert – Ait Souka – Imlil Waterfalls – Armed
Enjoy a full day exploring the High Atlas on foot, starting with a trek through the scenic Tamatert Valley. Cross Tizi n’Tamatert (2,279m), discover authentic Berber villages, and savor a picnic overlooking the Jbel Oukaïmeden (3,268m). Return via Imlil waterfalls to Armed Village for another peaceful overnight stay.
Day 6: Imlil – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley
Transition from the mountains to the desert. Travel over the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m) and visit the ancient Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue your journey with Trekking Atlas Mountains into the scenic Dades Valley. Overnight at a hotel with dinner and breakfast included.
Day 7: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi Dunes)
Experience the natural wonder of Todra Gorge before heading into the Sahara. Arrive in Merzouga and meet your camels for a magical sunset trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Spend the night at a luxury desert camp, enjoying a traditional Berber dinner under the stars.
Day 8: Merzouga – Marrakech
On the final day of your 8 days Morocco mountain trek and Sahara Desert tour, wake up early to catch the stunning desert sunrise. After breakfast, ride back to Merzouga by camel and begin your return journey to Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, arriving in the evening with memories to last a lifetime.
Our 8-day trek through the Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert was nothing short of epic! The contrast between the lush mountains and the vast, golden sand dunes of the Sahara was stunning. The trekking was challenging but manageable, and the guides were incredibly experienced, making sure we felt safe and comfortable the whole way.
